Two Snippets from the book ‘A Small Man’s Journey’

There are, I believe, times in every persons life when we meet people who impact us in such a way as

to effect change. Such an eruption can follow that life takes on a new sense of feeling and quest. It may

not be as obvious to the eye, as a child being born or a marathon completed but nonetheless it is seen

by the individual. There were two people who became to me shining beacons bearing glimpses of my

way ahead. These are the infamous Rich the Hat and the formidable Capricorn.

I eventually came across the edge of Golden Gate park as I proceeded on to her fair grass I noticed a

man about 100 metres away just climbing up an embankment. Suddenly I felt something in my spirit

that said you need to catch up with that guy and walk with him. So I started to run after this guy and

within a short while caught up with him. I said nothing about the voice.

‘Hi, I am Lee from England. Who are you? And where are you heading?’ spoken quickly as I was still

recovering from my run.

He turned slightly unsure what to make of me but looked intriugued, ‘I’m Nick, over here from New

Zealand…erm…I am walking downtown….erm….where you heading?’

‘No particular direction. Mind if I join you?’

So after chatting pleasantries we begun to walk. Well, Nick began to walk and I followed as he seemed

to know where he was heading. We talked about the surface of our lives for about an hour and then

something strange happened. At this point we were surrounded by buildings, malls and people in a

hurry when in the distance on the side-walk I heard the sweet ryhtms of a drum and saxophone filling

my ears. The closer we got I noticed that it is was a dreaded, funky young guy blowing the sax and a

girl beating the drum like her life was being kep alive while she kept playing.

Suddenly, the voice came back and so I listened. ‘lee, you need to say goodbye to Nick and talk to

these two guys,’ came the command. So I turned to Nick and said this is where we have to depart and

explained to him that I needed to talk to these two musicians. He took it on board in the same vein as

our meeting and walked away with a smile that indicated his day may now start to become slightly

more normal.
